A self-coaching ritual for when you want to give up.
This episode will be helpful for you if you’re looking to find a simple and streamlined way to guide yourself out of a rut, or carve a path to reach your creative goals with less resistance. So grab your notebook and let’s go through a coaching ritual together.
Dear creative mind, if you can relate to feeling like you want to give up... You’re not alone. This episode will be helpful for you if you’re looking to find a simple and streamlined way to guide yourself out of a rut, or carve a path to reach your creative goals with less resistance. So grab your notebook and let’s go through a coaching ritual together.
Note: Coaching is not therapy. If you're navigating feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, please seek out support.
The coaching ritual:
What’s present for you right now?
If you were to paint a picture, what would it look like?
If you were to travel into your heart, what feelings would you find?
What do you wish to experience in your future? What are you hoping for? How would you like to feel?
What would the path from the present moment to your desired destination look like? What are the big milestones you need to achieve?
What is currently standing in the way of this vision? What challenges are you facing?
What can you learn from the past? Is there a situation, similar or not, that may provide lessons, insights or wisdom to find solutions?
In what ways can you potentially overcome or navigate the obstacles on your path?
What action are you willing to take? What can you commit to?

Find your own pace: artists, do not rush your mission.
This episode is about finding your pace in creative entrepreneurship. Artists, do not rush your mission.
Why am I not there yet? What am I doing wrong? Dear creative mind, this is a question we’ll explore together in today’s episode, as I will be reading a letter I wrote back in the Spring of 2022: Artists, do not rush your creative mission.
Some journaling prompts you may want to reflect on:
Do I really have to change the situation or my perspective of it? Do I need to adjust the goal or the measuring stick? Can I take a step back and let go of the microscope to witness my growth, and just trust that it will?
Instead of rushing and finding ways to grow faster, how can I simplify my path and make it easier to navigate?
If I knew with certainty that this project would come to life, how would I approach it?
Is this pace something I am self imposing? Or is it a rhythm that was imposed upon me?
What would it look like to follow a pace that allows me to enjoy the journey getting to my goal?
What would need to change compared to my current pace?
What creates a feeling of urgency or a need to rush? Where does it come from?
How can I self-regulate when I notice impatience or hustle stories pop up?

Are you feeling like you're missing a piece of information to make a decision and take action? You don’t know what to do. You don’t know how to do it. You don’t know where to start. You don’t know which option to choose. You. Don’t. Know.

How can I get rid of my inner critic? (and why you should not)
Coaching guidance for artists and creative entrepreneurs to soften their inner critic and navigate self-criticism.
Do you have an inner critic? Your answer is most likely yes! I can also assume you've been wanting to get rid of it many times before. In today's episode, I'm inviting you to better understand this protective part of you and learn how to befriend it (instead of destroying it).
This is an invitation to befriend this part of you:
Observe— Get some perspective and distance from this part of you. See how you can observe them, without judging it. Be curious about where you can feel them in your body or what they may look like.
Befriend— Open a dialogue with this part of you. Welcome their presence with compassion, and listen to what they have to share. Get curious about their fears, and the ways they decided to protect you from them.
Collaborate— See if you can start to write a new job description for them. Can they become your inner coach instead? Can they protect your growth instead of sheltering you from perceived danger?
I would love for you to keep 3 important things in mind when you feel the inner critic popping up:
There’s no need to judge or fight this part of you. It’s there for a reason.
You have the power to slowly shift the way it’s protecting you.
Get curious about this question: Am I moving away from what I don’t want, or towards what I want?

Join me in this short journaling practice to connect with the energy of the Winter solstice, and feel into the energy of the season to get inspired for your creative work.
Prompts:
How do you feel about Winter? How close do you feel to it? What do you find beautiful about it? What part of it would you change? And get curious about why. What does it say about you?
What’s your relationship with rest? What’s your relationship with stillness? And what about action and productivity? How easy or difficult is it for you to rest and just ‘be’? What does being productive and taking action mean about you? And how does that affect your life?
Now, let’s create space for you to dream. Take 5 minutes to brain dump your thoughts about an idea or a dream that’s been living inside your head. What part of it feels exciting? How is that a reflection of your essence, your passion, your vision?
What part of it feels scary? Can you name the fears? The fears are valid. But let’s take a look at what you CAN do about them. How can you support yourself to self-soothe, ground and empower yourself?

And you’re not stuck, you’re committed to certain patterns because they serve a purpose… and you can unlearn them and support yourself in a more helpful way. So let’s explore these creative knots.
Some typical challenges we go through + questions to reflect on:
Indecisiveness: Are you avoiding making a decision right now? Could this be creating this feeling of stuckness?
Perfectionism: What do you expect of yourself for the project you're working on, or your business this year? Is there space for joy here?
Procrastination: Am you truly too busy, or are you busy avoiding what you really need to do?
People-pleasing: Do you know where your boundaries are? And do you respect them?
Imposter syndrome: How do you not want to be perceived? How does it affect your creative growth?
The nature of our free-spirited mind: How can you use your creative mind to your advantage?
The stories, myths and social conditioning around being an artist: What story do you believe about being an artist? How does it affect your ability to thrive?
Which of these knots have you experienced before? Where do you feel it comes from? And what is the consequence of staying committed to these stories?

Julie Kim, artist, joins me for today's conversation about the many layers of art and creativity. We chat about cultivating a slow approach to art-making, exploring our inner landscapes, designing an inspiring space and more. She also shares about the intriguing process of making your own paint pigments, and her beautiful journey in Peru.
Julie Kim is an artist, designer, and pigment worker from Seattle, Washington. In her paintings she explores the movement of light, color, and energy in the spaces where inner and outer worlds overlap. Using natural handmade and synthetic paints, she weaves elements of the material landscape together with the felt and subtle experience, the lightness and density of which are mirrored in her palette. Her curiosity for landscape and pigment has led her to explore mountains, rivers, deserts, and jungles of the world, cultivating a closer relationship with Earth and a deeper understanding of the inner world. Each pigment discovery contributes to her handmade mineral paint palette and informs a vocabulary of shapes that characterize her paintings: wild growth of jungle foliage, fluidity of the wind, crystallized light, and clear horizons. Her paintings bring to light an unseen story, layering dimensions of pigment, landscape, and spirit onto paper.

When that happens, we start to feel lost, we procrastinate, we ruminate, we overthink, we even doubt the plan… and then, well not much happens. Let’s try to untangle that knot together.
Some reflections to journal about or bring along with you today:
What if you can’t follow the plan because the plan doesn’t follow… you?
What if it’s not you cannot do it but it’s that deep down you don’t want to?
What if you feel overwhelmed because the plan is actually overwhelming?
Do you have a plan B? Do you have a plan for when plan A doesn’t go according to plan?
A loving reminder: Having a plan can give us the illusion of control. We might stay stuck in the plan because taking action on it will bring us out of our comfort zone and into the unknown. Investigate your need for control… and explore what you CAN actually control.
